DIY | Tretorn Nylite - “Astros Orange”
Finally finished and ready to wear.  I haven’t had any luck finding the perfect pair of canvas shoes for our upcoming summer months so I decided to take matters into my own hands and create a shoe that was for Houston, by a Houstonian. Having been inspired by some of my favorite bloggers/tumblrs such as Street Etiquette, NOVH.US, and IAMSANGSOUVANH I decided to pick up some RIT Dye from the local fabric store and dye a pair of Tretorn Nylites. Not knowing how these would turn out, I filled up my sink with warm water, poured in the RIT dye and submerged the shoes as well as the laces into the dye for about 30 minutes. To my surprise the shoes turned out better than I envisioned. The orange compliments the blue logo perfectly and I couldn’t be happier with the final result.
The reason I chose Orange or what I like to call “Astros Orange” was to pay homage not only to Houston, but to some of my childhood heroes growing up such as Nolan Ryan, Jose Cruz, Craig Biggio, Mike Scott, Jeff Bagwell, and Ken Caminiti. I loved watching and mimicking these players growing up and I wanted to pay tribute to my beloved baseball team with a great looking pair of shoes for summer.
I can’t wait to break these shoes in. I plan on dyeing some other things in the coming months and will keep y’all posted. Also, I’ll post a couple of pics of the process in the days ahead. Till then, stay classy.
