Tip #2 Don’t Sweat the Technique
My ideas are only for the audience’s ears…
I get it…I get it, not everyone wants to protect their necks this winter with a scarf, not because it’s deemed “UN-MANLY” because quite frankly I’m not sure most men know how to wear them (Google folks. G-O-O-G-L-E).
First and foremost, let me be the first to tell you that I LOVE SWEATERS. I mean there are days…by days I mean WEEKS during our Houston winters where a jacket isn’t necessary. For those days a sweater will suffice. This Gant Rugger Cablecito Sweater has me feelin’ some type of way. The cable knit comes in a nice shade of red that will embolden any casual outfit. Though the knit is quite chunky, the cotton-blend yarn ensures this sweater is fairly lightweight. I balanced the hue of the sweater with these Navy chinos from UNIS which I talk way too much about because they are THE TRUTH and a Merino Wool Top Beanie from Norse because it’s #luxe and your head only deserves da best.
This outfit is a real versatile outfit to step out in, in the H. Whether you’re stepping out at Kung-Fu Saloon to get #turntup or Cobra vs Mongoose for a more chilled atmosphere this look is sure to turn heads. TRUST, when that pseudo-hipster girl standing next to you at the bar (draped in brand names you can’t even pronounce) accidentally brushes up against you and is like WOW THAT SWEATER IS SO SOFT, you’ll thank me. Just DON’T respond to her by reciting the history of cable knit as well as its intricate details of braiding, like one cable braid vs two cable braid. AANNNDD YOU MOST CERTAINLY DON’T TELL HER YOUR A BLAWGGER AND THAT FASHIONZ IS YOUR PASSIONZ. IT’S 2013 BRUH NOT 2009. Instead, tell her, THANKS and although this sweater looks good on me, it’ll probably look much better on you. If that got her attention, proceed by telling her that you’re a photographer and you take pics of women in men’s clothing and that you’d like to photograph her some time. Then give her your IG handle and tell her you have over 1k followers AND ARE MAADDD INFLUENTIAL IN THE INDUSTRY. I’M 99.9% SURE this will work…but if it doesn’t tell that PYT not to SWEAT THE TECHNIQUE.
Layering in Houston during the winter time is as UNPREDICTABLE as Rachel and Ross’s relationship on Friends.
Throughout the course of their several-year relationship, Ross and Rachel get together, break up, accidentally get married, just as quickly get divorced, accidentally video tape a secret tryst during which their child is conceived, live together as friends to raise their daughter, live a part as friends to raise their daughter, and apparently on track to live happily-ever-after in the final episode, when Rachel gives up her shot at a dream job in Paris working for Louis Vuitton so that she can stay in New York with Ross. Just like their relationship the weather down here CAN’T SEEM TO MAKE UP ITS MIND.
Layering in general is not something we Houstonians do often because often times we can be seen wearing shorts and t-shirts year round. Having said that, when the temperatures tend to cool down we are some times left not knowing what to do, let alone what to wear.
Throughout the next couple of days, I’ll be sharing some tips of how to layer here in Houston when the temperature does dip . We’ve teamed up with Houston-based photographer V R M T (Visual Rhymes and Melodic Thoughts) to put together a couple of winter weather appropriate outfits all available in store and online at www.theclassroomshop.com.
Tip #1 Protect Ya Neck
YO, YOU BEST PROTECT YA NECK as WU-TANG said. LISTEN TO WU-TANG, no seriously listen to them (they know what they are talking about), as of late the wind has picked up and a scarf is you best ally against this wind. When thinking about wearing scarves, don’t be afraid to mix textures and patterns. I really love this Harris Tweed Coat from A.P.C because it’s heavy enough for our winters that you can just wear a Jungmaven T-shirt underneath. Not only is the jacket heavy enough, but it has a very classic silhouette with hidden button closures. The Herringbone pattern of the jacket mixes well with The Hill-Side Nordic Camo Scarf. Not only does it look good aesthetically, but the scarf unlike most is not itchy, but very soft (64% cotton, 18% acrylic, and 18% polyester). When mixing patterns and textures, you have to be real mindful of the rest of the outfit and make sure it’s very subtle so it doesn’t look too busy. Let me just state for the record, I LOVE COLORS regardless of the season. I mean all black everything is cool…if you’re a ninja or Regis Philbin on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire circa 2000 but there’s a reason the color television was invented in 1953 #knowwhatimsayin. Everything just looks better with a touch of color…TRUST. This Knit Cap by Gant Rugger adds just the right touch to the outfit without going overboard. Lately, I’ve been wearing chinos a bit more and in my opinion there’s no better chino on the market then UNIS chinos. The fit and fabric is so on point. Need I say more?
Like I’ve stated the weather down in Houston is very UNPREDICTABLE and protecting ya neck is CRUCIAL especially right now with the temps being down and the wind acting up. Contrary to popular belief or what JAY-Z may say, this ain’t TRUFFLE SEASON homie…it’s FLU SEASON so don’t let me catch you in the streets in a SUIT AND TIE without protecting ya neck with a scarf or a jacket.
